Dogon Ladder

Ladders made from a tree trunk come from countries along the West African coast. Their purpose was used to climb to the second storey of flat-roofed double storey houses. They are rare, old objects, with many dating back to the beginning of the 19th Century. Their great sculptural beauty has made them sort after items by African art dealers and are now difficult to find as most have already been collected.
